Our healthcare team provides your companion animal with quality veterinary care in a cozy, family oriented environment.
Dr. Lindsay Norman
Dr. Norman graduated from Oregon State School of Veterinary Medicine in 1983. In addition to a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine, she earned a degree in History from Lewis and Clark College in Portland, and a BS (Animal science) and MS (Animal Breeding and Genetics) from Oregon State University. After practicing in Ontario, the Oregon Coast (Bandon) and Idaho, she settled in Ontario and opened Ontario Animal Hospital in 1990. Since then, her companion animal oriented practice has grown to over 1000 active clients. She particularly enjoys internal medicine, dermatology and soft tissue surgery.
Dr. Norman makes her home west of Ontario with her husband, former Oregon Senator Cliff Bentz, their three cats, Frank, Opus and Tohru, and two dogs, Jelly Bean and Panda. Cliff and Lindsay have two twenty-something children, Allison (Klebenow), an MA with Valley Family Health, and Scott, an apprentice electrician in Boise.
When not at her clinic, Dr. Norman enjoys running, Crossfit and cycling. She works with the Ontario Feral Cat Project which over the past 10 years has been successful at decreasing the stray cat population and providing forever homes for hundreds of cats and kittens.
Licensed Veterinary Technician
Trinity is a full-time Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT), graduating from the two year program at College of Southern Idaho in 2002. She started her employment at Ontario Animal Hospital while still in high school in 1998 as a Kennel Attendant. Now her duties include assisting in surgery, monitoring anesthesia, dentistry, radiology and client education and patient care. She finds critical care and diagnostics particularly satisfying. In addition, she is The Boarding House manager and our OSHA coordinator.
Trinity is a native of Ontario where she lives with her husband, Cody, and two children, Emma and Dylan, both of whom are in grade school. She has four cats, Buttercup, Flower, Cheddar and Milo, and three dogs, Sugar, Ellie and Belle. She enjoys softball, crafts, fishing and camping. She also loves being an independent jewelry consultant for Paparazzi Accessories. Check out her Facebook page at Trinity’s Bling Boutique.
Licensed Veterinary Technician
Gretchen became a Licensed Veterinary Technician in 2001 while working at Ontario Animal Hospital. She joined the practice in February 2000, bringing 5 years of veterinary nursing and receptionist experience with her. In addition to her full time duties in the hospital, she is responsible for inventory management. Though all of veterinary medicine is enjoyable to her, Gretchen’s favorite aspects involve patient care and laboratory diagnostics.
Gretchen grew up in Payette where she resides with her husband, Jamie, her three cats, Shy, Billy and Bink, and Landri, her Golden Retriever. Jamie and Gretchen have two adult daughters. Amberlee is married and recently gave them their first grandchild, Rhett. Kynlee is currently attending Carrington College. Gretchen enjoys spending time with her family, particularly when they are at their cabin in Cuprum. She recently opened a store in Payette, Three Blondes, One Bright Idea, featuring her passion for refinishing furniture and home decorating. You can check out her Facebook page under the same name.
Candace is the newest member of our nursing team. She comes to us with 6 years’ experience in adult care. Her emphasis has been on the elderly with memory loss. Veterinary medicine is new to her, but patient interaction and diagnostics are her favorite aspects so far. She is presently enrolled in an online program through Penn-Foster for veterinary technicians to build her skill base.
Candace is native to Ontario where she lives with her parents and four brothers. She helps care for two of her brothers, one of whom has autism and the other has Downs Syndrome. She loves taking care of others and veterinary medicine provides a lot of opportunity to take care of both two and four legged individuals. Candace’s family includes two dogs, Ava and Ashley, and a cat named Annabelle. She recently added Oliver to the household whom she adopted from the Ontario Feral Cat Project. When she isn’t caring for everyone else, she enjoys jigsaw puzzles and reading.
Vickie, our full-time receptionist, joined the Ontario Animal Hospital team in June 2015. She has a varied background in banking and retail, but has really enjoyed working with companion animals and their owners.
Vickie grew up in Payette, but now resides in Nyssa with her husband, Matt. She has two adult step-daughters, Tristyn and Stasia, who are away at college. Spending time with her family is an important part of her life. She enjoys bike riding and baking, but most of all, she loves walking on the beach when she visits the Oregon Coast. She had not been a cat owner until becoming part of our team. PJ and Six were adopted from the Ontario Feral Cat Project. These two hooligans have made Vickie a fan of felines, so much so she now has a third cat, Mama Kitty.
Irene is our part-time receptionist who joined the practice in July 2016. She was raised in Vale and worked for the Bureau of Land Management for about 33 years as a records manager and contracting officer. Irene is fluent in Spanish, which is very helpful for our Hispanic clients and their four legged family friends.
Irene lives in Ontario with her fiancé, Cory, and three cats, Icky Thump, Scylla and Hippidy. This last cat was an Ontario Feral Cat rescue who won her heart after he recovered from hind leg paralysis. You can follow her cats’ antics on Instagram @threedevilishcats. Irene enjoys golfing, gardening and drives in the country. She has one daughter, Lindsey, who recently moved to the Salem area.
Juanita is our full-time Kennel Attendant who keeps The Boarding House clean and organized. Originally from a ranch outside Burns, Juanita graduated from Crane High School. Juanita moved to Ontario in 2001 where she met her husband, Casey. They have three children, Clayton, Kyle and Alyvia and recently became grandparents to a baby girl, Luciana. Juanita’s ranch upbringing exposed her to a wide range of animals, making her comfortable with your dogs, cats, and a variety of feathered and furry creatures. Her personal pet is a grey and white kitty named Puff. In her spare time, she enjoys riding dirt bikes and Dual Sport motorcycles with her family. Stop by to meet Juanita and take a tour of our facility.
Lex started grooming for us in December 2018. Prior to coming here, she worked at Petsense for about three years. She loves what she does and it shows. She owns two wonderful Golden Retrievers, Rowdy and Lucy, who patiently allowed her to practice and polish her grooming skills in the early years of her training.
Lex was raised in Payette. She now lives in Fruitland with her family that includes four cats, Abby, Millie, Toby and Smokey, along with her two dogs and fiancé, Falcon. She enjoys outdoor activities including camping and road trips. Please stop by and meet her. She will treat your dog like it is one of her own!
Shantel is our part-time weekend Kennel Assistant. In the summer, she also works for Babby Farms, a petting zoo in Caldwell that features a variety of common and not-so-common animals, including camels. In addition, Shantel gained hands-on experience when she managed a pet store in the Portland area before moving to Eastern Oregon. These experiences have taught her that a quiet and calm approach works well for our boarding animals. Most of all, Shantel loves playing and cuddling with your pets.
Shantel is originally from Portland. She and her husband, Rian, moved to this area in 2016 with their two sons, Mason and Tommie, and two cats, Lulu and Biggie Smalls. The family recently moved to Nyssa.
